Pennsylvania staffing firm operator gets prison

March 08, 2013

A staffing firm operator in Pennsylvania was sentenced to 12 months plus one day in prison for a scheme that involved providing undocumented workers to staffing buyers, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania reported. The staffing firm operator, Ethan Nguyen, pleaded guilty earlier.

Nguyen will also have to pay $45,128 in restitution and a $300 fine, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Nguyen, 34, is a resident of Phoenixville, Penn.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office reported Nguyen operated Four Seasons Services, a temporary employment agency with offices in Philadelphia and contracted with businesses in the Scranton and Wilkes-Barre area to provide day labor employees.

However, Nguyen fulfilled the staffing contracts by providing illegal workers and paying them in cash under the table, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The firm also failed to pay various federal, state and local taxes.

Four Seasons later changed its name to Direct Staffing Services and then other names.

Two others also pleaded guilty in this case — Andri Gunawan and Eleni Nguyen. They will be sentenced in the next few weeks.
