Mucci is the third president and CEO for the 40-year-old company. He was part of a three-member interim executive team that led the company after the resignation in July of previous CEO Jonathan Judge.

Mucci joined Paychex in October 2002 as senior VP of operations. Prior to joining the company, he served as CEO of Frontier Telephone of Rochester Inc. and president of telephone operations for Frontier Communications.
