Orleans fastest-growing, New York highest paid

Orleans Parish in Louisiana, home of New Orleans, posted the fastest job growth of all U.S. counties in the first quarter, up 5.0% year over year, according to number released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. New York County, the location of Manhattan, reported the highest average weekly wage in the first quarter at $2,805.

Harris County TX, which includes Houston, added the most jobs in the first quarter, 67,200. And Los Angeles County had the highest overall employment at 4.2 million jobs. Lee County in Florida lost the most jobs in the first quarter, employment was down 8.1%.

In average weekly wages, Westmoreland County in Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh, posted the largest increase, 14.9%, among all counties in the first quarter. Somerset County in New Jersey had the largest overall increase in average weekly wage, up $146 to $1,765.
