Online staffing firm branches out with domain marketplace

September 04, 2014

Freelancer Ltd., an online staffing platform trading on the Australian stock exchange, launched Freemarket.com, an online marketplace that facilitates the exchange of websites and domain names. The new enterprise targets technology entrepreneurs, SMEs, investors, webmasters and operators of web properties.

Freemarket resembles a competing offering to GoDaddy. Sellers on Freemarket.com can post both websites and domains under an auction or a “buy-it-now” option. Once listed, interested buyers can bid on or buy the asset.

“Freelancer.com is the first online work platform company that is making such a move into a new service segment, and it is the first time the online contingent workforce population gathered around a platform is being leveraged in this way,” said Staffing Industry Analysts Affiliate Analyst Andrew Karpie.
