Online jobs rise in 21 of 28 metro markets

September 20, 2007

The local employment index from Monster Worldwide Inc. (NASD: MNST) found that online jobs rose in 21 of the top 28 U.S. metropolitan areas in August as the fall hiring season got under way. Houston remained one of the hottest markets, according to the index, rising 2% month-over-month in August and 19% year-over-year. White collar demand was strong in Houston with more opportunities in management; business and financial operations; computer and mathematical; and office and administrative support.

"A majority of U.S. cities saw online recruitment activity pick up during the month of August, which typically marks the end of the seasonal summer slowdown and the beginning of the fall hiring period," said Steve Pogorzelski, executive VP of global sales and customer development at Monster. "Not surprisingly, most of the markets tracked saw stepped up online recruitment in education-related occupations as academic institutions prepared for the fall semester, and continued strong demand for healthcare workers, particularly in those with heavy senior citizen demographics."
