Online job ads rise slightly in June

July 03, 2013

U.S. online job ads rose by 52,900 in June for a total of about 4.98 million, according to The Conference Board’s report on online jobs ads released today.

“Labor demand in the first half of this year has been disappointing,” said June Shelp, vice president of The Conference Board. Two bright months — January and April — have been offset by declines or modest gains in the other four months of the first half of 2013. While labor demand is well above its pre-recession high, the strong upward trend since 2009 has stalled with 19 of the 20 largest states either flat or down in the first half of 2013.

Sales and related occupations reported the largest increase among the largest occupational groups — up 23,300 in June to 610,400 — driven by greater demand for a wide range of sales workers and managers including retail salespeople, first-line, sales representatives and insurance sales agents.

Healthcare practitioners and technical occupations reported the largest decline among the largest occupational groups — down 25,900 in June to 546,400 — largely due to lower demand for physical therapists, pharmacy technicians and occupational therapists.
