Online advertisements for automotive and automotive parts manufacturing jobs rose 9 percent in July when compared to the same month last year, according to Wanted Analytics, a firm that tracks online job ads. A total of more than 8,500 auto manufacturing jobs were available online in July 2013, a four-year high.
Among metropolitan areas, Detroit had the highest volume of auto manufacturing job ads during the month, followed by Oshkosh, Wis.; Chicago; Minneapolis; and Toledo, Ohio.
Engineering was the field in most demand in July, with more than 3,400 job ads accounting for 40 percent of available positions. Technology-related positions followed with more than 1,300 available jobs, a 17-percent year-over-year increase. The most commonly required skills by auto manufacturers were product design, Six Sigma/lean manufacturing and software development.
