Online job ads fall in September, offset August increase

October 01, 2014

U.S. online job ads fell by 137,200 in September to a total of about 5.1 million, according to The Conference Board’s report on online jobs ads released today. The increase follows a gain of 164,600 job ads in August.

“The September loss offsets most of August’s gain, resulting in only modest overall growth for 2014,” said Gad Levanon, director of macroeconomics and labor markets at The Conference Board. “Following a strong second quarter, the third quarter has ended basically flat.”

STEM-related occupations showed strength in computer and math, architecture and engineering, and healthcare practitioners. Other categories showed losses, including office and administrative, sales, and transportation.
