Online job ads fall in April, computer and math ads lead decline

May 06, 2015

Following a very strong first quarter, US online job ads fell by 104,500 in April to approximately 5.36 million, according to The Conference Board’s report on online job ads released today. April’s decrease follows a gain of 15,160 job ads in March.

In March, eight of the largest online job categories posted decreases while two posted increases.

The computer and math category posted the largest decrease, down 29,400 in April to a total of 579,200 due to drops in demand for Web developers and applications software developers. Management ads dropped 22,300 to a total of 478,300 largely due to declines in demand for sales managers and medical and health services managers. Business and financial ads dropped 17,000 to a total of 333,300 due to drops in demand for accountants.

Food preparation and serving-related ads rose by 13,000 to a total of 247,300, largely due to increased demand for first-line supervisors of food preparation and serving workers. Office and administrative support ads rose by 500.
