The Oklahoma City metropolitan area's jobless rate of 5.9% in September was the lowest among all U.S. metropolitan areas with populations of 1 million or more, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The Washington D.C. metropolitan area ranked second-lowest at 6.2%.
Detroit again posted the highest jobless rate among large metropolitan areas at 17.3% in September. The Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario area in Southern California ranked next-highest at 14.2%. It was followed by the Las Vegas metropolitan area at 13.9%.
Among metropolitan areas of all sizes, Southern California's El Centro metropolitan area posted the highest jobless rate in September at 30.1%. The Bismarck ND area registered the lowest unemployment rate at 2.9%.
