Oklahoma City posts lowest jobless rate

Oklahoma City reported the lowest jobless rate in March, 3.3%, among U.S. metropolitan areas with populations of 1 million or more, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The Detroit area again posted the highest unemployment rate among large areas at 8.1%.

Among metropolitan areas of all sizes, Iowa City IA and Midland TX registered the lowest jobless rates in March at 2.6% each. El Centro CA again posted the highest rate at 16.4%.

Overall, 309 of the 369 metropolitan areas reported higher unemployment rates in March than a year ago, 40 reported lower rates, and 20 had no change.
