Office and admin workers' wage rises 1.3%

The median weekly wage for office and administrative support workers in the first quarter reached $619, up 1.3% from the first quarter of 2009, according to wage data released today from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

For transportation and material moving occupations, the first-quarter median weekly wage slipped to $598, down 0.8% from the year-ago quarter.

The occupation category with the highest weekly median wage in the BLS' first quarter report was "management, business and financial occupations" at $1,167. It rose 1.8% from the first quarter of last year.

The median weekly wage for all the 96.8 million full-time wage and salary workers in the U.S. was $754 in the first quarter. It rose 2.2% from the first quarter of 2009.
