Nurse recruiter pleads guilty to fraud

December 01, 2008

A recruiter of foreign nurses pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud, the U.S. Attorney's Office for Western District of Pennsylvania reported. The recruiter, Anthony Aliucci of Mars PA, also admitted to defrauding Global Nursing Solutions of at least $400,000, but less than $1 million.

Global struck a deal with Aliucci to pay his expenses for finding foreign nurses, but Aliucci spent the money on himself, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Global also hired Aliucci in 2005 as its employee, not knowing of the fraud while he was an independent contractor, according to the office. Aliucci then formed a shell company called IHC which he claimed provided services to Global, for which the company paid.

Aliucci also had Global pay several hundred thousand dollars to a North Carolina company known as NNI claiming the company provided services to Global, which it did not, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. The money actually went to pay debts owed by Aliucci to NNI.

Aliucci faces a possible sentence of up to 20 years and $250,000 in fines.
