The number of U.S. information technology jobs rose by 1,800 in July to 4,053,600, according to the TechServe Alliance’s monthly index of IT jobs. The number of IT jobs is up by 120,000 from July 2010.

In addition, the TechServe Alliance reported that revisions to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data resulted in the reported decline of 300 IT jobs in June being revised to a gain of 800.

“Despite the tepid recovery, IT employment remains a bright spot,” said TechServe CEO Mark Roberts. “Both the data and the anecdotal reports of our member companies confirm that demand for IT professionals remains robust with an acute shortage of qualified professionals in certain skill sets.”

The TechServe Alliance is a collaboration of IT services firms, clients, consultants and suppliers.
