November hiring to rise, SHRM report says

Hiring in the U.S. service and manufacturing sectors is expected to rise on a year-over-year basis in November, with the highest net hiring rates for November in both sectors in four years, according to the leading indicators of national employment report released today by the Society for Human Resource Management.

The report’s survey found that 41.8 percent of service-sector companies plan to hire in November while 7.7 percent plan to reduce their workforces for a net increase of 34.1 percent, up from a net increase of 33.7 percent in November 2012.

Among manufacturing employers, 49.0 percent plan to add staff in November and 8.6 percent plan to cut their workforces for a net increase of 40.4 percent, up from the net increase of 33.6 percent in November 2012.

The report is based on a survey of human resource executives at more than 500 manufacturing and 500 service-sector firms.
