North Dakota, Michigan continue trend

March 26, 2010

North Dakota posted the lowest jobless rate among all states in February at 4.1%, and Michigan posted the highest at 14.1%, according to data released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The rankings follow a trend from 2009. North Dakota posted the lowest annual average unemployment rate among all states in 2009, and Michigan registered the highest. The rankings were the same in January.

Both states' unemployment rates edged down from their January readings of 4.2% for North Dakota and 14.3% for Michigan. The jobless rate in Michigan fell, although the state still lost 16,000 jobs in February.

Nevada posted the second-highest unemployment rate among states at 13.2% in February. That was despite adding 5,100 jobs, and recording the largest month-over-month percentage increase in employment among all states of 0.5%.
