North America - Majority of employees to seek new jobs in 2014

November 19, 2013

A vast majority of North American employees plan to actively pursue new job opportunities in 2014, but the percentage is down slightly from the previous year, according to a poll by Right Management, a division of ManpowerGroup Inc. (NYSE: MAN). A Right Management survey found that 83 percent of the workers surveyed said they intend to actively seek a new position in 2014, compared to 86 percent who said so in a similar survey a year ago.

However, the 2014 percentage of employees who plan to look for new jobs remains up from the heart of the recession. Just 60 percent of employees said they would actively seek a new job in 2009.

“These numbers should signal a wake-up call for top management, when four out of five employees say they intend to look for employment elsewhere,” said Scott Ahlstrand, Right Management's global practice leader for employee engagement. “Solutions to keeping the best talent on board all point to effective engagement that drives performance, satisfaction and loyalty. Employers must act now to engage top talent and prevent them from leaving for the competition.”

The online survey included 871 employees in the U.S. and Canada and ran from Oct. 16 to Nov. 15, 2013.
