View All NewsNew Zealand – Invitation-only local freelance platform launched
A new freelance platform, Yudoozy, catering for freelance designers, project managers, developers, marketing, and writers has been launched in New Zealand, reports stuff.co.nz.
Yudoozy is free for freelancers to join but costs NZD 200 (USD 146) a month for employers wanting to find talent. The company launched in May and already has more than 270 freelancers signed up.
However, unlike traditional freelance platforms, employers can only join Yudoozy by invitation. So far, three have signed up.
The website caters for freelancers looking for work with either direct employers or agencies contracting out work.
Greig Cranfield, co-founder of Yudoozy, said: “Under the current recruitment model freelancers were put in touch with an employer and the agency negotiated what the freelancer would be paid. Yudoozy cut out the agency as the middle man and saved time.”
Other freelance recruitment websites already exist, but Yudoozy's point of difference was that it was only for local freelancers so if someone in Auckland wanted a job done only freelancers from Auckland would be available, Mr Cranfield explained.
International websites allow freelancers from around the world to compete with each other, which drives down rates. Many freelance websites also operate on a "bid for work" model or put a commission on payments to the freelancer.
"This favours everyone but the freelancer," he added.
Mr Cranfield plans to expand Yudoozy overseas, but with the same model of keeping freelancers local: "Once we've validated that it works here we'll definitely roll it out overseas. New Zealand is an awesome test market. Everyone seems to be an early adopter."
