New York County posts highest wage in Q1

New York County, which includes Manhattan, posted the highest average weekly wage among all large U.S. county areas in the first quarter of 2014, while Chester County in Pennsylvania posted the largest year-over-year increase, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

New York County posted an average weekly wage of $2,749. Chester County had the largest percentage of year-over-year wage increase at 13.9 percent.

The 10 large U.S. counties with the highest average weekly wages in the first quarter:

  1. New York, N.Y.: $2,749
  2. Santa Clara, Calif.: $2,074
  3. San Mateo, Calif.: $2,058
  4. Somerset, N.J.: $2,048
  5. San Francisco, Calif.: $1,944
  6. Fairfield, Conn.: $1,922
  7. Suffolk, Mass.: $1,852
  8. Washington, D.C.: $1,701
  9. Arlington, Va.: $1,669
  10. Morris, N.J.: $1,646

The 10 large U.S. counties with the highest year-over-year increases in average weekly wage in the first quarter:

  1. Chester, Pa.: +13.9 percent
  2. New York, N.Y.: +12.0 percent
  3. San Mateo, Calif.: +9.6 percent
  4. Forsyth, N.C.: +9.6 percent
  5. San Francisco, Calif.: +9.3 percent
  6. Suffolk, Mass.: +8.8 percent
  7. Midland, Texas: +8.5 percent
  8. Palm Beach, Fla.: +7.8 percent
  9. Washington, Pa.: +7.3 percent
  10. Elkhart, Ind.: +7.2 percent
