New Orleans again posts lowest jobless rate

The New Orleans-Metairie-Kenner metropolitan area in Louisiana again reported the lowest jobless rate in March, 5.3%, among U.S. metropolitan areas with populations of 1 million or more, the U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics reported Wednesday. The Oklahoma City OK area posted the second-lowest at 5.6%.

The Detroit area recorded the highest unemployment rate in Mach at 14.0%. It was followed by the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario area in Southern California at 12.9%.

Posting the highest jobless rate among metropolitan areas of all sizes in march was the El Centro CA area at 25.1%. The locations with the lowest unemployment rates were Houma-Bayou Cane-Thibodaux LA and Iowa City IA at 3.6% each. The next lowest was Ames IA with a jobless rate of 3.7%.
