New Orleans, DC areas post lowest jobless rates

The New Orleans and Washington DC metropolitan areas' unemployment rates of 6.1% each in November were the lowest among all U.S. metropolitan with populations of 1 million or more, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

Next lowest was the Oklahoma City area with a jobless rate of 6.4% in November.

The large metropolitan area with the highest unemployment rate in November was Detroit at 15.4%. Second-highest was the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario area in Southern California at 14.2%.

Among metropolitan areas of all sizes, Southern California's El Centro metropolitan area registered the highest jobless rate in November at 29.2%. The Bismarck ND area posted the lowest at 3.4%.
