Nevada displaces Michigan on jobless rank

Nevada recorded the highest jobless rate, 14.0%, among all states in May, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday. It was the first time since April 2006 that a state other than Michigan has posted the highest rate.

Michigan reported the second-highest unemployment rate at 13.6%. California came next at 12.4%, followed by Rhode Island at 12.3%.

May marked the first time Nevada recorded the highest unemployment rate among states.

North Dakota posted the lowest jobless rate among all states in May at 3.6%. South Dakota had the second-lowest at 4.6%. Nebraska was third, reporting a jobless rate of 4.9%.
