Nearly half haven’t searched for a job in five or more years

Almost half of employed U.S. workers haven’t looked for a new job in at least five years, according to a survey released today by Accountemps, a division of Robert Half International Inc. (NYSE: RHI). This includes 30 percent of survey respondents who haven’t conducted a job search in more than a decade.

Nineteen percent employees polled said they plan to look for a new job in the next 12 months. Among those, 34 percent expect the effort very challenging, 36 percent expect it to be somewhat challenging, and 30 percent do not expect it to be challenging.

Workers were asked, “How long has it been since you last looked for a new job?” Their responses:

  • Within the last two years: 32 percent
  • Two to four years: 20 percent
  • Five to seven years: 12 percent
  • Eight to 10 years: 6 percent
  • More than 10 years: 30 percent

The survey included than 400 employees who work in an office environment in the U.S.
