Motor City, Sin City among highest jobless

Detroit, Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario CA and Las Vegas reported the highest unemployment rates among large metropolitan areas in July, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

Detroit posted the highest jobless rate among all U.S. metropolitan areas with populations of more than 1 million with a rate of 17.7% in July. The Riverside-San Bernardino area in Southern California posted the next-highest at 14.3%. It was followed by Las Vegas at 13.1%.

Oklahoma City registered the lowest jobless rate among large metropolitan areas in July for the third month in a row at 5.9%.

Among metropolitan areas of all sizes, El Centro CA posted the highest jobless rate in July at 30.2% and Bismarck ND posted the lowest unemployment rate at 3.1%.
