Monster online jobs index drops five points

December 06, 2007
The Monster Worldwide Inc. (NASD: MNST) employment index fell five points in November to 183 from October's reading of 188 amid a broad decline in online job availability. Still, the index is up eight points from its November 2006 level of 175.

"This marks the first time since its inception, that the index has declined during the month of November and suggests that a two-year low in consumer confidence amid greater economic uncertainty is making employers more cautious about their near-term hiring plans," said Steve Pogorzelski, executive VP global sales and customer development at Monster.

Pittsburgh posted the largest month-over-month increase in online job availability, rising four points to 161 in November. Only two other metropolitan areas registered increases during the month — Tampa and Orlando FL.
