Monster online job ad index falls 14 points

January 03, 2008
The Monster Worldwide Inc. (NASD: MNST) employment index slid 14 points in December to 169 from November's reading of 183. The decline comes amid a seasonal slowdown and further moderation in the job market, according to Monster. The index is up two points from December 2006's reading of 167.

"Approximately half of the index's decline in December 2007 can be attributed to seasonality as employers naturally scale back their hiring activities during the final month of the year," said Steve Pogorzelski, executive VP global sales and customer development at Monster. "The index has consistently shown a seasonal slowdown every December since its inception, which is usually followed by a sizable rebound in the months that immediately follow."

Online job availability in December fell in all 28 U.S. metropolitan markets the index measures.
