June 04, 2009

The Monster Worldwide Inc. (NYSE: MWW) employment index fell two points in May from the previous month to a reading of 118. Year-over-year, the index is down 48 points.

"Although the Monster Employment Index experienced a mild decline in May, there are emerging signs of stability in the hiring market," said Jesse Harriott, senior VP and chief knowledge officer at Monster. "The index has remained within a four-point band since January and the annual pace of decline seems to have leveled off."

Monster's index is based on a review of online job ads taken from a selection of corporate career Web sites and job boards, including Monster.
