Monster index's jump highest since July 2007

May 06, 2010

The Monster Worldwide Inc. employment index of online job demand in April posted its biggest increase since July 2007.

The index rose eight points in April from March to a reading of 133. The reading is 13 points above its year-ago level.

"The positive momentum in the index is consistent with other economic indicators suggesting that we may be in the early stages of an economic recovery," said Jesse Harriott, senior VP and chief knowledge officer at Monster Worldwide. "While most industries and occupations are showing increased demand for workers, public administration remains muted and below seasonal expectations as several state and local governments continue to face budgetary pressures."

Monster's index is based on a review of online job ads taken from a selection of Web sites, including Monster.
