Monster index: Job Growth at 'Measured Pace'

March 31, 2011

Monster's U.S. employment index rose to a reading of 136 in March, up seven points from the previous month and up 11 points from March 2010, Monster Worldwide Inc. announced today.

"The March index reinforces a consensus from other leading indicators that the labor market is continuing to grow at a measured pace," said Jesse Harriott, senior vice president and chief knowledge officer at Monster Worldwide. "We continue to see the impact of an increased demand for specialized IT talent as well as sustainable recruitment levels for all related healthcare occupations. We are now seeing hopeful signs in the wholesale trade and manufacturing sectors which are historically considered foundations of an improving economy."

The index is based on a review of online job ads taken from a selection of websites.
