The federal minimum wage will rise to $7.25 an hour on July 24. The U.S. Department of Labor reported the increase will take effect in 30 states that either don't have a minimum wage or the state minimum wage is below the new federal level.
Presently, the federal minimum wage is $6.55 an hour. The last increase was on July 24, 2008.
The upcoming increase represents the last increase approved under the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007.
