Mexico sets single national minimum wage

October 21, 2015

Mexico’s National Minimum Wage Commission established a single national minimum daily wage of 70.10 pesos (US$4.24), effective Oct. 1.

Labor Secretary Alfonso Navarrete said the change will benefit 751,915 workers in 2,341 municipalities currently within “zone B,” which will see a 2.66% increase from $68.28 pesos per day to match the $70.10 pesos per day in “zone A.”

Geographical zone A previously included Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Acapulco and most of Mexico's largest cities while zone B included Mexico's rural area such as Aguascalientes, Morelos and Tabasco.

A previous review of the minimum wage took effect April 1, and called for the government to reach a single general minimum wage in the country.
