Mexico leading index declines

The Conference Board leading economic index for Mexico fell for the third consecutive month, edging down 0.5 percent in February, the organization reported. The leading index now stands at 121.2 (2004=100). The leading index fell 1.4 percent in January.

Over the six-month span through February, the index decreased 1.9 percent. This is a small improvement from a 2.1 percent decrease in the previous six-month period.

The leading index for Mexico has declined in four of the last six months. As a result, the six-month change in the leading index has been negative since the beginning of this year, with widespread weaknesses among its components.

The Conference Board coincident economic index from Mexico edged up 0.1 percent in February. The CEI now stands at 123.0 (2004=100). Two of the three components that make up The Conference Board CEI for Mexico — the number of people employed and industrial production — increased in February, while retail sales declined.
