Maxim Layoffs in Florida

October 14, 2011

Maxim Healthcare Services Inc., a Columbia, Md.-based healthcare staffing and home healthcare provider, is laying off nearly 300 nurses in South Florida, the South Florida Business Journal reported.

According to the report, the company filed a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notice with the state on Tuesday regarding its plan to lay off 287 nurses — 243 licensed practical nurses and 44 registered nurses — due to a lapsing contract with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

The layoffs began on Oct. 1.
