Third-quarter revenue rose 9.1 percent at Mastech Holdings Inc. (AMEX: MHH), a Pittsburgh-based information technology and healthcare staffing firm, to $25.6 million from $23.5 million in the same period last year.

“We significantly expanded our IT consultant base during the quarter; we continued to drive superior top-line revenue growth when compared to most of our industry peers; and we delivered bottom-line earnings per share results that were 50 percent greater than those of a year ago,” said CEO Kevin Horner. “Operationally, we are starting to see some payback from investments aimed at strengthening our recruitment capabilities.”

Third-quarter gross margin slipped to 19.1 percent from 19.8 percent in the year-ago quarter.

Net income rose to $601,000, a 36.3 percent increase from net income of $441,000 in the year-ago quarter.
