ManpowerGroup names new CEO, COO

February 12, 2014

ManpowerGroup Inc. (NYSE: MAN) named Jonas Prising as its new CEO effective May 1; only the fourth CEO for the company since it began in 1948. Present CEO Jeffrey Joerres will transition to the role of executive chairman when Prising takes on CEO responsibilities. Joerres will continue to be active in the business.

In addition, the world’s third-largest staffing firm promoted Darryl Green to the new position of president and chief operating officer effective May 1. Green will report to Prising.

Joerres took on the CEO role at the Milwaukee-based firm in April 1999 and was also named chairman in May 2001. Joerres first joined the company in July 1993. Additionally, he is a director at Johnson Controls Inc. and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.

He was the company’s third CEO. Co-founder Elmer Winter served as the company’s first CEO from 1948 to 1976. The second CEO was Mitchell Fromstein, who served from 1976 to 1999. Fromstein passed away on Nov. 7.

Joerres also held the title of president until late 2012 when Prising and Green took on president roles.

Prising has been with ManpowerGroup for 15 years, starting out as head of the company’s European sales organization. He most recently served as president and executive vice president of the Americas and Southern Europe. He also leads the company’s Right Management and ManpowerGroup Solutions businesses.

Prising is a native of Sweden and speaks five languages. He has also lived in nine countries across Asia, Europe and North America. Prior to joining ManpowerGroup, he was at Electrolux, a Swedish multinational.

“ManpowerGroup will benefit not only from Jonas’ global perspective but his leadership and passion for our clients, our associates and our people,” Joerres said in a statement.

Green, who will fill the president and COO role, presently serves as president and executive vice president, Asia Pacific Middle East and Northern Europe.

Green joined ManpowerGroup in 2007 as executive vice president overseeing the Asia Pacific region. He was in the telecom industry before joining ManpowerGroup and had served as CEO of several communications firms including Tata Teleservices.

Also on Tuesday, ManpowerGroup named Sriram “Ram” Chandrashekar as president, Asia Pacific Middle East, effective immediately. Chandrashekar is presently senior vice president operational excellence and information technology. He was previously COO for Asia Pacific Middle East.

“Ram’s experience as COO, Asia Pacific Middle East, and working around the world to improve our operational performance, will allow him to smoothly transition into the added responsibilities of running the Asia Pacific Middle East Region while continuing to drive momentum in our operational and IT performance globally,” Joerres said.
