ManpowerGroup (NYSE: MAN) acquired a 74 percent stake in Web Development Company Ltd. (WDC), an IT staffing and services firm based in Kolkata, India.

The founders of WDC, Rahul Sharma and Harsh Hada, will retain a 26 percent stake in the company.

WDC was founded in 1998 and has more than 1,200 information technology professionals. It operates in India at locations in Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore and Pune. It also has operations in Singapore.

"WDC today is a well established and fast-growing brand in the IT Professional staffing business in India," said Sanjay Pandit, managing director of Manpower India. "We will combine the capabilities of Manpower and WDC to consolidate our leadership position in the professional staffing industry while providing attractive career opportunities for the young and growing population of IT professionals in India."
