Manpower survey - Some jobs still tough to fill

Some jobs — such as engineers, nurses and skilled/manual trades positions — remain difficult to fill despite the global economic slowdown, according to survey results released today by Manpower Inc. (NYSE: MAN).

In the U.S., the 10 toughest jobs to fill included:
' Engineers
' Nurses
' Skilled manual trades
' Teachers
' Sales representatives
' Technicians
' Drivers
' Information technology staffing
' Laborers
' Machinist/machine operators

"While talk has slowed in the U.S. about the pending talent shortage, it is becoming more clear that there is a talent disconnect," said Melanie Holmes, VP of world of work solutions for Manpower North America. "Our workforce needs to be more open to retraining and upskilling for jobs that are in demand. And, our government, business leaders and educational facilities need to take action together to ensure students are being enticed to enter these fields."

In Canada, the 10 toughest jobs to fill included:

' Sales representatives
' Engineers
' Technicians
' Secretaries, administrative assistants, office support staff
' Teachers
' Drivers
' Accounting and finance staff
' Laborers
' Nurses

Worldwide, the 10 toughest jobs to fill included:

' Skilled manual trades
' Sales representatives
' Technicians
' Engineers
' Management/executives
' Accounting and finance staff
' Laborers
' Production operators
' Administrative assistants
' Drivers

Manpower's survey included more than 39,000 employers in 33 countries and territories, including more than 2,000 U.S. employers.
