Majority of temps unfamiliar with online staffing

June 11, 2015

The vast majority of temporary workers, 66%, are not yet familiar with online staffing services, according to a report by Staffing Industry Analysts.

Another 13% are familiar with services but not interested, 7% are considering using such a service within the next two years and 13% are earning some income from online staffing.

Online staffing is defined as an online platform that enables specific hirers and specific (typically contingent) workers to enter into, complete and transact work arrangements. It is the oldest “human cloud” model (arising in the early 2000s). There is a direct legal relationship between the hirer and worker, which the platform enables. Well‐known names include Upwork, Freelancer, 99 Designs, Fiverr, and Guru.

The report is based on a survey that included more than 6,300 temporary worker respondents.
