LinkedIn acquires employee referral software firm

March 17, 2015

Online networking site LinkedIn acquired Careerify, a Toronto-based firm providing an online platform that allows firms to manage employee referrals, internal mobility and employer branding in one solution. The deal was announced in a blog post by Careerify Founder and CEO Harpaul Sambhi.

Terms and timing of the transaction were not disclosed.

The Careerify brand will remain and focus on its employee referral software for existing customers. Careerify’s software uses an employee’s social connections — LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook — to figure out who in an individual’s network might be suitable for a job opening in that employee’s place of business, according to TechCrunch.

“We decided to join LinkedIn due to what we lacked — massive scale," Sambhi wrote in the blog post. “More than 30,000 companies across the globe leverage LinkedIn for recruitment, and with more than 347 million members, LinkedIn offers an opportunity to make a much larger impact on job seeking and hiring. We are absolutely thrilled to be joining LinkedIn to accelerate our technology and connect talent with opportunity on a massive scale.”

Careerify had four employees and three have joined LinkedIn: Sambhi joined the product management team and software engineers Luthfur Chowdhury and Prashant Viswanathan joined the engineering team.
