A group of 28 temporary workers sued General Motors LLC and the United Auto Workers Union, alleging the company illegally extended their temporary assignments and the union failed to adequately represent their interests, according to the May 2011 edition of the Legs & Reg Advisor, which is produced by Staffing Industry Analysts in conjunction with employment law firm Littler Mendelson.

The workers claim GM improperly extended their temporary employment agency relationships to avoid providing them full pay and benefits, according to the Legs & Reg Advisor. The workers allege a union agreement required them to either be laid off or hired as permanent employees once their fixed-term contracts expired.
