October 01, 2009
Staffing Industry Analysts North American Daily News

Staffing Industry Analysts announced an alliance with Littler Mendelson, the largest U.S.-based law firm exclusively devoted to representing management in employment and labor law matters. The companies will co-produce the new "Legs & Reg Advisor" on a monthly basis.

The Legs & Reg Advisor will help Staffing Industry Analysts corporate members and CWS council members monitor and understand the implications of key legal, legislative, and regulatory changes.

"Staffing Industry Analysts is very excited to work with Littler Mendelson on  monitoring the legal, legislative and regulatory environment in North America impacting companies who use or supply contingent labor," said Ron Mester, managing director of Staffing Industry Analysts. "Staying abreast of these issues is one of the critical challenges for corporations who use temporary workers/independent contractors and for staffing firms. The monthly advisory report that will be produced will help these companies to not only stay on top of these issues, but to understand key implications and actions to take."

Items in the first update include:
*Recent trial court decision applies stringent standard under Massachusetts independent contractor law
*Massachusetts court ruling expands the scope of damages available to employees misclassified as independent contractors
*Amendments to New Hampshire's employee leasing company law modifies the operation regulation and licensing of employee leasing companies
*Federal bill would clarify independent contractor roles and increase employer penalties for misclassification
*New FMLA regulations clarify co-employment responsibilities
*New Colorado law imposes greater penalties for independent contractor misclassifications
