Leading index up 0.3%

The Conference Board's U.S. leading index of economic indicators rose 0.3% in September, its first increase in five months, and now stands at 100.6 (2004 base level = 100). However, weakness among the leading indicators has remained widespread over the last six months.

Based on revised data, the index fell 0.9% in August and 0.7% in July.
