Leading index falls 0.8%

The Conference Board's U.S. leading index of economic indicators fell 0.8% in October, and now stands at 99.6 (2004 base level = 100). Weighing down the index were stock prices, building permits, consumer expectations and the index of supplier deliveries.

Based on revised data, the index also fell 0.1% in September and 0.9% in August.
