Lateral Link buys legal staffing provider

October 09, 2015

Legal staffing provider Lateral Link acquired Cadence Counsel, an ad-hoc legal staffing firm providing lawyers for project and variable term engagements.

The transaction closed Sept. 10 and was publically announced Oct. 8; terms were not disclosed.

“Like with Lateral Link in the permanent placement industry, Cadence Counsel has developed a national talent community of experienced lawyers who graduated from top law schools with prior experience from major AmLaw firms,” said Lateral Link Managing Principal Michael Allen. “Cadence Counsel’s staffing capabilities are a perfect match to supplement Lateral Link’s already best-in-class permanent recruiting services. We are excited to offer a project staffing division to our existing client base — both law firms and in house legal departments — and we found the right fit with Cadence Counsel based on culture, commitment, and leadership.”

Lateral Link, headquartered in Los Angeles, has offices nationwide and in Asia. It currently operates three divisions: associate placement, in-house placement, and law firm partners. The Cadence Counsel brand will remain as a division of Lateral Link and target temporary staffing in the legal sector.

Cadence Counsel Co-founder and CEO Danielle Lackey, a Stanford Law grad and former Latham & Watkins white-collar litigator, will continue to lead the division as its CEO. Founded in 2013, Cadence Counsel is also headquartered in Los Angeles and primarily operates in California. It currently counts about 150 attorneys on assignment.

“Combining Cadence Counsel with Lateral Link’s resources, international footprint, and incredibly talented team lets us accelerate growth, attract even more skilled lawyers, and provide a higher level and range of services to our clients,” Lackey said.
