Largest engineering staffing firms listed

July 26, 2013

Staffing Industry Analysts released this year’s list of largest U.S. engineering staffing firms. The list includes 18 staffing firms with $50 million or more in 2012 U.S. temporary staffing revenue generated in the engineering/design skill segment.

The 18 firms on the list combined to generate $4.9 billion, which accounted for 66 percent of the total market.

“In 2012, demand for contract engineers was hurt by looming federal government spending cuts and uneven demand in manufacturing,” said Research Analyst Timothy Landhuis. “Looking ahead to the remainder of 2013 and on to 2014, we forecast moderate single-digit growth in the overall market. However, any uptick in the economy could provide quite a lift as manufacturing and local government spending would likely improve. Regardless of the economy, we expect demand in the oil and gas sector to grow robustly for several years.”

The five largest engineering/design staffing firms in the U.S. and their estimated 2012 U.S. staffing revenue are:

  1. Aerotek (Allegis Group): $1.2 billion, 16 percent market share
  2. Adecco: $775 million, 10 percent market share
  3. Volt Information Sciences: $399 million, 5 percent market share
  4. Kelly Services: $385 million, 5 percent market share
  5. CDI: $321 million, 4 percent market share
