Kelly buying Randstad's Portuguese operations

July 11, 2008

Kelly Services Inc. said today it's buying the Portuguese operations of Randstad Holding NV. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition needs approval from the European Commission, but it's expected to close this quarter.

The deal includes 13 branch offices and 15 on-site locations. The operations include temporary staffing services, direct hire and on-site personnel management. Jim McIntire, VP public affairs, said the operations include a variety of segments such as industrial, office/clerical, tourism staffing and other staffing.

Randstad's Portuguese operations had 2007 revenue of euro47 million (US$69.2 million). Randstad said in its annual report that it was among the top four staffing providers in Portugal.

The current management team, including General Manager Frank Weermeijer, will remain with the company.

Randstad announced plans to sell its Portuguese operations on March 28 as part of its acquisition of fellow Dutch staffing company Vedior NV. The sale does not involve Portuguese operations that were part of Vedior.
