Jobless claims rise again

The number of initial jobless claims rose again the week of Jan. 10 after edging down the two previous weeks, according to numbers released today by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Initial jobless claims increased 11.5% to 524,000 in the week ended Jan. 10, compared with the previous week, according to the Department of Labor. However, the four-week moving average of initial jobless claims edged down 1.5% to 518,500.

Initial claims represent those people filing for unemployment benefits.
