The number of U.S. initial claims for unemployment benefits rose 1.4% to 654,000 in the week ended March 7 from the previous week's revised number of 645,000, the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. The four-week moving average of claims rose 1.1% to 650,000 from the previous week's revised average of 643,250.
