The number of U.S. initial claims for unemployment benefits rose 4.5% to 584,000 in the week ended July 25 from the previous week's revised number of 559,000, the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. The four-week moving average of claims fell 1.5% to 559,000 from the previous week's revised average of 567,250.
