Jobless claims fall by 12,000

The number of U.S. initial claims for unemployment insurance fell by 12,000, or 2.2%, to 545,000 in the week ended Sept. 12 from the previous week's revised number of 557,000, the U.S. Department of Labor reported today.

The four-week moving average of claims fell 1.5%, or 8,750, to 563,000 from the previous week's revised average of 571,750.
